Frank
for my husband Frank
He is younger, healthier,
getting the rest he has needed for years
surfing to his heart’s content
spending time with his wife and children
Reading, writing,
practicing Capoiera, playing the drums and guitar
making friendships and connections
not accessible to us
in our previous Southern California
rat-race life…
Learning Spanish,
communicating with the locals
laughing, smiling
bbqing on our terraza,
drinking ice-cold Pacifico’s
and sipping on fine mezcal
only to wake up
and do it all again…
He is happy
He is renewed
He is living,
truly
the prime of his life
Frank worked so hard for this dream
he put in his time
sacrificed himself in more ways than one as a career firefighter
That chapter is done
and a new begins…
Edited to add: This photo was taken in 2012 when Frank was 50, upon receiving his Permanent Residency card.
Today, August 30, 2022, we celebrate my man’s 60th! Feliz Cumple mi amor xo
